Hello! I see that you have clicked in to read our article, probably looking for a solution to improve the condition of your skin. Well, you came to the right place. Haha. We’ll be discussing oily skin in this article.
To keep it simple, there are five basic skin types –
Normal, Oily, Dry, Combination, and Sensitive.
Reading this article, I’m guessing you have… normal skin right? Haha. I’m just kidding. This article is about oily skin and I’m going to teach you more about oily skin.
Before that, let us talk about how you can identify if you have oily skin. In short, it is mostly characterized by a greasy appearance and this skin type is prone to acne breakout. It mostly happens as a result of excess sebum production where too much oil is being produced and it might clog the face, accumulating toxins. All the blockage and clogged issues will eventually produce acne, a big signal that the skin is shouting for help.

So what causes oily skin?
There is no 100% that it must be this or that but these are the probable reasons:
Hormonal Changes
Usually, people say that it is normal to have more pimples during puberty as our body is undergoing huge changes hence, in hindsight, it is kind of an unwanted gift given to us to welcome us to this world to be an adult soon. Haha.
The main reason is due to the hormonal fluctuations during puberty. Both genders, male and female will have the hormone Androgens that will cause the skin to produce more oil. The more androgens you have, the oilier the skin will be.
Climate
I’m sure you will agree with me on this that climate plays a big part in this too. I mean, living in Singapore can sometimes be a little overly humid. And, the little overly humid weather will affect our skin in the long run.
This is because heat has a naturally stimulating effect that triggers the skin defense mechanism. The brain gets the signal that the skin is affected by the heat and it needs protection. The oil glands will need to report for duty to produce more oil to protect the skin.
Our skin is very smart, it will get used to this kind of condition pretty quickly. Imagine, repeating this for a week and the skin will produce the same amount of oil every day to protect it. Eventually, you will have oily skin, unless, you have protection, that is another topic for another day.
Enlarged Pores
Everyone has pores on our skin and it comes in different sizes. It’s like many tiny holes on the skin, allowing the skin to breathe, to produce oil and sweat. It is actually quite important as it releases a reasonable amount of sweat to keep you cool and it helps to get rid of toxins too.
When the pores are clogged, it might grow into pimple or acne, this will enlarge the size of the pores. Now, with enlarged pores, it allows more sweat and oil to be produced. This is why having a good skincare routine is important as it helps to cleanse the skin properly, preventing such issues from happening.
